As I grew older, I began to realize that being deaf wasn't just about not hearing sounds. It was about embracing a unique culture and community that had been hidden from me for so long. I started attending Deaf events and workshops, where I met incredible individuals who shared my experiences and struggles. For the first time in my life, I felt like I belonged.
But it wasn't all smooth sailing. I faced numerous challenges, from struggling to communicate with hearing people to feeling like an outsider in my own family. However, with each obstacle came an opportunity for growth and self-discovery. I learned to adapt, to find new ways of communicating and connecting with others.
As I continued on my journey, I realized that I had a responsibility to pay it forward. I started volunteering at local Deaf organizations and mentoring younger deaf individuals who were struggling to find their place in the world. It's been an incredible experience watching them grow and thrive, and I'm proud to be a part of their journey.
